A few posts back we made the promise to show readers how to use some of the great things that our PSP can be used for - besides playing games. After all, we may as well get max benefits from it. And it turns out that some of the really cool things we can use our PSP for just aren’t being used!

Girl using PSPWith Skype on PSP, you can call friends, family, and anyone else who’s got Skype – free – wherever they are in the world - so thta is pretty cool.

Because Skype has made it possible to hook our PSP up to it - and make calls from our PSP for FREE!

Here’s how to get Skype on PSP -

*First up you do need the PSP-2000 series.

*Second, you can download Skype directly to your PSP using the Network Update icon Using the XMB™ menu, scroll to the Network icon and scroll down to the Skype™ icon.

The sign-in page will look like this

* Third, you must create an account (if you already have one on your PC then you can use that same ID for PSP. To cretae your account, insert your Memory Stick into your PSP and select create Skype account from <Skype> under <Network>. The system will connect to the internet and an account will be created. Then follow the on-screen instructions…

* Fourth -just get to any WiFi zone, sign into Skype and start chatting!

You can get more details from the Playstation-site pages about Skype-on-PSP (Skype were too lazy to provide the url for the exact page - they only send us to the home page for Sony Playstation!) Here are some links to the exact pages for most of you.

*North America

*Europe (incl Australia)

*Japan

*Asia:-Korea; Malaysia; Thailand; and others

A word of warning. Skype is free for most uses. Naturally Skype is hoping to get us all signed up for the pay service - but for most PSPers, there is no need.

PS - Sony PSP recently did a deal with FON - a worldwide free wifi provider - resulting in free wifi for PSP’ers accross Japan. We will let you know if this gets made available in other countries.
